Magnesium - NH35 (formerly Dow 20)

The NH 35 process is a low concentrated chromate solution primarily developed for magnesium high pressure die castings.

This process, depending on alloy, produces a light yellow to matte gray chromate film. Dimensional change is very small generally less than 2 um per surface. The finish acts as an excellent paint base and affords the same basic corrosion protection as the Dow 20.

NH 35 has become the most popular of the finishes at Saporito Finishing for die castings today. In general its low cost corrosion protective properties and the aesthetic look, particularly when coupled with vibratory or other mechanical preparations, have made it the finish of choice.

Change over from Dow 20 to NH 35 was a simple choice for the many end users that we provide it for, particularly in light of everyone's concerns over environmental issues. NH 35 uses 1/5 the chromium content but produces a finish comparable to Dow 20 in every way.
